Nisa, Zuhairi & Mochi, Galaxy

Cats, both female, 2+yrs

Adopted June 2020

Multi-cat household

Nisa and Zuhairi have always been big proponents of #adoptdontshop - even before adopting Mochi and Galaxy, they took in a stray neighbourhood cat that was injured from a cat fight. To their surprise, the cat took very well to the indoors – he is now a whopping 6.5kg, very lazy and very, very manja. Since then, they’ve wanted to grow the family and adopt cuties who are deserving of a warm and loving environment.

For the couple, falling in love with Mochi and Galaxy was instant. Mochi had such a playful demeanour. Meanwhile, Galaxy wouldn’t open up to anyone as she continued hiding in a little corner. Nisa remembers reaching out, holding her and discovering that she’s actually just as affectionate as Mochi.

Nisa and Zuhairi were initially not ready to adopt as they were still waiting on their new house - they met Mochi and Galaxy when they were just little kittens and decided it wasn’t the time. In fact, they posted them up on their own Instagram Stories to ask if anyone was keen to adopt them. Once replies started flooding in, however, they realised that they couldn’t let them go! So they readied themselves to take the leap and: “it was the best decision we ever made!”

There were concerns at first about whether they could provide a fully kitten-friendly environment, and whether the kittens could get along with the resident male adult cat. Research was key - the couple did a lot of reading, watched YouTube vidoes, and also consulted with the shelter to fully understand what to anticipate and how best to provide a nurturing and loving environment. They also carefully worked their schedules around the kittens at least for the first few months to ensure that their needs were met and they were comfortably adapting to their new environment.

The couple soon realised that despite being siblings, Mochi and Galaxy are so different! Mochi is a little round ball of cluelessness. She might not be the smartest but she is the most lovable little baby and enjoys sleeping in between her humans’ legs at night and waking them up with purrs and harmless nibbles when she’s hungry. She’s great at opening drawers and sliding doors as well. The “little perv” also loves to accompany them when they’re in the bathroom (the couple can’t close our bathroom doors anymore). She also likes to be carried like a little baby.

Galaxy is the brightest and fastest girl ever. Nisa recalls: “One fine night, Galaxy starts running and growling in the dark and we realised she had successfully caught a cockroach! We applauded her for a noble feat. She is our little agile hunter that loves to keep our house pest-free lol.” Galaxy also likes to scoot her butt on carpets, so the couple can’t buy expensive carpets. And, like many black cats, while she might look fully black, her little belly and her underarms are white lol.

Almost 2 years on, Nisa says, “Honestly, I don’t remember what life was like before because they’ve really completed the family and made our lives so much better. The love that they give us and the happiness they bring is unparalleled. They are really the light of our lives.”
